From Jun 1 to 3, led by Liu Zhongfan, Member of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor of Peking University, the Graphene Industry Strategy Research Group conducted a survey in Fujian province, covering three cities as in Xiamen, Yongan and Quanzhou. The Group visited local universities, companies and industrial parks, and held meetings with local government officials, researchers and employers. This survey, after the previous ones conducted in Beijing, Jiangsu and Guangdong, ranked No.4 in the national survey series, with a purpose to understand the current development of the industry in Fujian province and help to boost its sound development.

On June 1, the Group visited Xiamen University and Xiamen Torch Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone successively, and held discussions with representatives from companies. The Group also visited the Energy and Graphene Innovation Platform, which is still under construction, and organized a conference between young scientists and the Group for exchange of ideas on graphene industry.

On June 2, the Group held a discussion with representatives from related companies. During the discussion, Wen Chuangxin, mayor of Yongan, attended the meeting and remarked that, as an old industrial base in Fujian, Yongan needs new materials and new technology to upgrade its local manufacturing. He also hoped that the Group could help Yongan find a way to improving its graphene industry. In response to the mayor’s remarks, Ruan Ruxiang, Permanent Vice Chairman the CIGIU, added that his CIGIU would continue to deepen cooperation with related departments and be willing to jointly promote the industry of advanced carbon materials in Yongan.

On June 2, the Group had a tour to Yongan Industrial Park of Graphite and Graphene, visiting new energy and new materials companies inside the park. On June 3, the Group went to Anxi County, Quanzhou City, to have a case-study about local companies’ demand to realize upgrade in the graphene industry.

For this survey in Fujian, Academician Liu Zhongfan, said he was glad to see that many good companies, which focus on respective fields and put much efforts on R&D of graphene products, appear in the said province. During the transition of upgrade, he added, local companies urgently need application of new materials and new technology, and show eagerness to have cooperation with research institutes. He also suggested that related companies have to demonstrate their own specialties and avoid simple repetition of similar products. He pointed out, meanwhile, that local governments need to be patient with the industry’s development, and give supports to integrate research institutes with related enterprises, so as to combine real production with scientific research and benefit the whole industry theoretically and practically.

Zhang jin, Vice Director of BGI and Vice Director of National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, Ruan Ruxiang, Permanent Vice Chairman of CIGIU, William Liu, the Secretary General of CIGIU, also took part in the survey and attended the discussions.

CIGIU has always been committed to the promotion and development of advanced carbon materials. Through this survey, CIGIU have gained a deeper understanding of the current graphene industry in Fujian, and intends to utilize its its own advantages to boost the upgrade of related companies to ensure the sound development of the graphene industry. In the future, the CIGIU will continue to cooperate with related companies and strengthen the platform, thus making contribution to the development of the industry around the country.
