The Preparatory Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Branch of the ICMU Officially Launched

On November 10, 2023, the Preparatory Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Branch of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) held a launching ceremony at the National New Carbon Materials Advanced Manufacturing Cluster (Changzhou) Innovation and Development Conference and Graphene Industry Seminar.

The conference was hosted by the Industry and Information Technology Department of Jiangsu and the People's Government of Changzhou organised by the Wujin District People's Government of Changzhou and the Changzhou Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, and co-organized by the National Institute of Metrology, China, Jiangnan Graphene Institute and Beijing Association for Advanced Carbon Industry Promotion. And more than 300 experts, scholars and representatives of well-known enterprises, including Wang Haizhou and Jiang Jianchun, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zhu Meifang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, exchanged views on technological innovation, scenario application, and opportunities for both supply and demand sides of the new carbon material industry, helping the layout of the whole industrial chain of carbon materials in Changzhou.

At the conference, Yun Qicheng, Deputy Secretary of Wujin District Party Committee of Changzhou, Yun Qicheng, Mayor of Wujin District of Changzhou, Professor Konstantin Novoselov, Co-chair of the Advisory Committee of the ICMU and winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010, Zhu Meifang, Senior Consultant of the ICMU and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and William Liu, Secretary-General of the Beijing Association for Advanced Carbon Industry Promotion, jointly attended the launching ceremony of the Preparatory Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Branch of the ICMU.

The Yangtze River Delta region is one of the most economically well-developed regions in China, and Jiangsu Province is not only the leading province in China's domestic graphene industry, but also an important province in carbon fiber production, and its research and development and application of carbon nanotubes, carbon-carbon composite materials and other aspects are in the forefront of the country. A relatively complete industrial ecology including research and development, production, application, testing and evaluation and standardization of graphene, carbon fiber and other carbon materials has been formed in this region.

Since 2008, Changzhou has begun to lay out graphene, carbon fiber and other carbon material industries, and has gathered more than 2,400 related enterprises, with an industrial scale of more than 120 billion yuan. And the scale of the graphene industry, the scale of high-end carbon fiber preparation, and the market share of carbon fiber composite fabrics rank first in the country. The Preparatory Committee of the Yangtze River Delta Branch of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) will take the Jiangnan Graphene Institute as the leading institute, unite the leading enterprises, universities, research institutes and influential associations in the field of carbon materials in the Yangtze River Delta region to jointly build a platform, organize demonstrable industry activities, promote the integration of new material standards and industry, promote capital empowerment industry, and accelerate the pace of industrialization of advanced carbon materials.

The International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) is an international public welfare NGO led by the Beijing Association for Advanced Carbon Industry Promotion and jointly initiated by leading industrialization institutions of carbon materials in the world, its members come from leading carbon materials enterprises, well-known scientific research institutions, professional service institutions and international societies across the world. The purpose is to build an open and forward-looking international exchange and cooperation platform for the industrialization of carbon material technology and promote the industrialization of carbon material technology. Members of the ICMU could adapt internal market-oriented operation models such as joint construction and sharing of intellectual property rights, collaborative innovation of international standards, win-win development of the global market, and extension and replenishment of the industrial chain, then they will be in line with the international market practices, integrate into the global scientific and technological innovation system, and promote the technological progress of the carbon material industry.
